Spontaneous meetups
Meet friends spontaneously, without group chat chaos
The best nights are often the ones nobody planned. Still, “spontaneous” rarely works out. Here's why, and how to make it easier.
Why spontaneous meetups so often fall through
You feel like going out. So you text the group chat: “Anyone free tonight?” Then nothing happens. An hour later two people reply “maybe”, one is already somewhere else, and the moment's gone.
It's not your friends. It's that a group chat isn't built for spontaneous plans:
- Nobody knows who's out right now. You ask into the void and wait.
- Questions feel like commitments. Nobody likes saying no to “Who's in?”, so people don't reply at all.
- Details get lost. Where exactly, from when, who's already there? Spread across 40 messages.
Five ideas for spontaneous meetups
Spontaneous doesn't have to mean a party. Often something small works best, where anyone can just drop by:
1. Coffee
Already sitting in a café working or reading? Let people know. For half an hour, someone almost always stops by.
2. Sports
Running, bouldering, football in the park: it's more fun together, and people can join without committing ahead of time.
3. Bar
The classic. Whoever's there first holds the table. Everyone else comes when they can. Alcohol-free counts just as much.
4. Chill
Park, canal, balcony. Costs nothing, needs no planning, and on a sunny day it's often the best part.
5. Game night
A deck of cards or a console is enough. Whoever arrives first sets up, whoever comes later joins the next round.
How it works with Lesgoo
Lesgoo flips the question. Instead of “Who's free?” it's: “I'm out, who's coming?” Here's how:
- You check in. A photo, your vibe and the neighborhood. You choose which friends see it and for how long.
- Your friends see it. For example: “Lea is at a bar in Schanze. You in?”
- One tap on Lesgoo! Anyone who's up for it taps it, and you see right away who's coming. Anyone who can't taps “Not today” or just leaves it.
- Out together. You share photos from the night, and the next morning there's a recap.
- Get home safe. One tap on “I'm home safe”, and your friends know you're back.
Your friends only ever see the neighborhood, never your exact location, and only for as long as you want.
And when it does need a plan
Some meetups need a date, like a birthday or a game night on the weekend. That's what Plan in Lesgoo is for: pick a vibe, day, time and neighborhood, invite friends, done.
If it's not clear yet when everyone can make it, start a poll with up to six options. Everyone answers “Works”, “Could do” or “No”, and the best option rises to the top. No back and forth in the chat. Friends without the app can say yes as a guest via a link.
